The following apology appeared in the Sunday Express on the 22nd of June
Billy Fury An Apology
Our February 3 article "Why Billy prompts such Fury" stated that there had been some tension between Wycherley (Billy's real name) family members and that some had shown little concern when his health failed. Sarah (Jean) Wycherley, his mother and Albert Wycherley, his brother, have asked us to emphasise that there was no family rift; on the contrary, there was a close family relationship, they cared deeply about Billy's health and were in close contact with him prior to his death.
Since 1989 they have both worked to perpetuate Billy's memory by Tribute performance and entertainment events to raise money for a number of charities.
We are happy to accept the
points raised by Sarah (Jean) Wycherley and Albert Wycherley and the issue has
been concluded amicably.
We have made donations to two charities nominated by them, British Heart
Foundation and Merseyside Kidney Research Fund.

We have again been hurt and saddened by a newspaper article in the Sunday Express. Our comments below are just a segment of the overall picture but felt that it was our rite to explain some of the things that were stated to the real Billy Fury fans.
Item 18 Taken from Billy Fury In Thoughts Of You Fan Club Website
It has been brought to our attention that allegedly a certain record company are selling a bootleg version of the official DVD from Odeon Entertainment- it is appearing at record fairs and market stalls. It is not in a blue case and has no booklet inside. Please do not buy this as not only will you be breaking the law by doing so, you will be depriving Billy's family from their royalties and stopping the official DVD from staying in the charts where it is now at number two. Let's try to make that number one again where it was before being ousted by Joseph....

This is the statement in the guest book
I would like to make the following statement to all the fans of Billy Fury.
As you know from my previous posting I have been fighting for some years to have my Mother Mrs Jean Wycherley installed as Honorary President of the Sound Of Fury Fan Club. Much to our delight, this was achieved with the help and support of you the fans, who have contributed with your kind messages of support. We asked for comments both for and against and received no negative comments at all. It was arranged that my Mother would be officially announced as Honorary President at the Mill Hill meeting on Sunday 17th October, which my Mother was both thrilled and honoured to accept. However subsequent events have taken place since then and unfortunately my Mother Mrs Jean Wycherley, has had to resign her position as Honorary President, as things have come to light which we firmly disagree with. Therefore we are withdrawing our Support for the Sound Of Fury team, in it’s present form. A decision was made and carried out on the same day of the 17th October, that the newly appointed Honorary President knew nothing about and the outcome was totally unacceptable to us. We feel that the Fan Club funds, (raised by the fans) are not being utilised in a way that everyone would approve of, also we feel the decision making process leaves much to be desired. We of course very much appreciate the fans of our Billy and all you do with regard to keeping his name and music in the forefront of people’s minds and with respect for that, we readily make ourselves available at every opportunity. We still intend to do that in any way we can. From this point on the only way forward for us, is to completely disassociate ourselves from the Sound Of Fury team, in it’s present form. We wish we could go into further details but we are trying desperately to keep our dignity intact. To say we are extremely disappointed and hurt is a complete understatement.
Thank you
Albie and Jean Wycherley

Albie is opening an art exhibition by artist Simon Prichard. The exhibition is called "Scouse Beat Volume 2" and is the second in the series so far. Albie opened Volume 1 last year which was a great successs. The paintings on show are all works by the artist Simon Prichard and they feature paintings of all the great stars from the 50s and 60s music scene including of course Billy Fury. The exhibition opens on Tuesday the 8th of October and runs until Friday the 29th of October. The opening times are Monday to Friday 12 till 4 p.m. at The Liverpool Academy Of Arts 36 Feel Street Liverpool L14 4BE. The exhibition was a great hit last year hence the need for Volume 2 get along there if you can as it is well worth a visit.
